The Prince of Soul began his solo career at Motown after his doo wop group, the Moonglows, disbanded in 1960. “Hitch Hike,” recorded at the end of 1962, was the first of 10 top thirty hits within three years, which put Gaye on the road to becoming one of the most consistently successful soul singers of all time.

The Righteous Brothers- In 1964, this California duo went into the studio with producer Phil Spector. The result was some great blue-eyed soul. Above all else was “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin’,” a soaring tune that became the single most played song in radio history. Bill Medley (right) delivered the great low notes, while Bobby Hatfield twittered gleefully on the high end.
