Germany’s Chancellor Konrad Adenauer shows his skill as a grandfather scooping up John-John during a visit to Washington. A copy of this picture was given to Adenauer and he was so taken with it he sent Cecil Stoughton an inscribed pictorial biography of himself.

On May 21, astronaut Gordon Cooper was honored at the White House for his 22 orbit space mission, and John insisted on meeting him. Jackie carried him to the limousine carrying Cooper, Senator Clinton Anderson of New Mexico, and Vice President Johnson. The space hero shook John’s hand, and then Jackie carried him back inside.
